Aston Villa Football Club is an English football club, that is located in Birmingham, Midlands, UK. Villa were founded in March 1874, by four members of the Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel and won their first FA Cup title in 1887. The english based football club currently competes in the English Premier League. Villa traditionally play in claret shirts, with a sky blue trim. The shirt colour has been common throughout Villa's history.
Throughout Aston Villa's history they have played the majority of their home league games at Villa Park. It has been their home since 1897, previously playing at Aston Park from 1874 to 1876, before moving to Wellington Road for 21 years. Aston Villa's home ground held its first England International in 1899 and most recently in 2005, becoming the first English football stadium to host International football matches across 3 different centuries. With a total of 55 matches, it has also hosted more FA Semi-Finals than any other stadium.
Aston Villa traditionally have a strong rivalry with Birmingham City and have played the 2nd City Derby since 1879. The club also has rivalries with other Midland based teams, notably West Bromich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The club has had a number of successes throughout its history and are considered one of the most successful English clubs, positioned 4th highest in the total of major honours won by an English club. Villa won the 1981–82 European Cup, which is now known as the UEFA Champions League. This makes them one of only five English clubs to win that particular European title.
In domestic competitions, the club has won the English League title on seven occasions, the FA Cup seven times and the Football League Cup five times. Their other notable honour was the UEFA Super Cup in 1982, which they won the European Cup in the previous season.
